Most BrakeQuip tube nuts have two distinct features for easier installation and dismantling. 1. A small step on the end of the thread allows for easier installation because the step acts as a guide and makes it easier to start the thread. It also gives the thread clearance at the end, which eliminates the problem of flaring out when over-tightened. If this happens, the nut can be very difficult to remove and can sometimes destroy the thread when removed. 2. A thread relief under the hex, apart from looking more professional, allows the nut to be screwed down to the hex, if necessary.
