Regular Helical Spring Washers, or Medium Helical Spring Lock Washers, are the most common style of lock washer used. They are designed to prevent loosening in vibrating applications. The circular coil grabs onto the head and material being fastened, creating a locking action. As a screw is tightened, these washers flatten to add tension to the joint and prevent loosening from small amounts of vibration.
